Obituary of Athol Bennett

Bedford Athol Bud Bennett, 84, of 200 Old State Road 37 N., Bedford, died at 9:40 pm on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at his residence. Born June 1, 1925 in Bedford, he was the son of Rex and Lucy Bennett. He married Juanita Chenault and she preceded him in death on February 21, 1982. He was a superintendant for Indiana Limestone Co. and was a veteran of WW II serving with the U.S. Army Air Corp. He was a member and past commander of the V.F.W. Post #1686 of Oolitic. Survivors include two sons, Nick Bennett and wife, Marigrace of Needmore, Doug Bennett of Bloomington; one daughter, Julie Silvers and husband, Mark of Mitchell; a granddaughter, Robin Yazel; two great grandchildren; his companion, Norma Sanders of Needmore; three sisters, Nina Spears of Dayton, OH, Vivian Binkley of Hendersonville, NC and Alice Armstrong of Burke, VA; two brothers, Wayne Bennett of Alexander City, AL and Mick Bennett of Bedford. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one grandson, Travis Reed Silvers; three sisters, Gayle Comboy, Mary Wohlfeld and Dorothy Hayes. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 13th from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery with military rites accorded at the graveside by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion. Friends may call from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, June 12th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
