Obituary of D. Maxine Smith

Bedford D. Maxine Smith, 82, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 3, 2004 at 8:30 am. Born August 15, 1922 in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Sanley Doc and Hazel (Adams) Bartlett. She married Herman W. Smith on December 3, 1939 and he survives. She and her husband owned Maxines Restaurant in Bartlettsville for over fifty years. She enjoyed every minute of cooking, talking and laughing with the customers, friends and neighbors until she lost her eye sight. Closing the restaurant and store was a difficult thing for her to do. She was well known for her love for her family many friends and her church. She was a charter member of Country Christian Church. Her hobbies before losing her eye sight was sewing, making quilts, crocheting, talking with friends and cooking. Surviving are her husband, Herman Smith; one daughter, Brenda Hillenburg and her husband, Bob of Heltonville; two sons, Bernard Bud Smith and his wife, Shirley and Barry Don Buck Smith and his wife, Sharon all of Bedford; seven grandchildren, Dedra Hawkins, Michelle Cornett and her husband, Dennis, LeAnn Godsey, Lisa Daab and her husband, Tim, Robin Hillenburg and his wife,Lisa, Wendy Raines and her husband, Dan, Tina Brooking and her husband, Jerry; twelve great grandchildren; one brother, Joe Bartlett; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Gladys Sharr and Helen Hancock; four brothers, Teddy, Sammy, Richard and Bernard Pug Bartlett. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 6th from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Barry Don Buck Smith and Rev. Johnny Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Bartlettsville Christian Church Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, October 4th and from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, October 5th at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Pallbearers are Robin Hillenburg, Dennis Cornett, Tim Daab, Jerry Brooking, Dan Raines, Jerrod Hawkins and Jade Daab.
