Obituary of Norman E. Smith

Oolitic Norman E. Smith, 82, of 106 Walsh Ave., Oolitic, went home to meet our Lord and Savior surrounded by his loving family at 7:35 pm on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Born November 26, 1927 in Lawrence Co., he was the son of Elmer and Lelia (Williamson) Smith. He married Larna June Nickless on June 28, 1947 and she survives. He was a foreman at Architectural Stone Co. in Bedford. He was a member of the Oolitic Methodist Church where he was treasurer and served on the church board for over twenty years. Survivors include his wife, Larna (June) of Oolitic; two daughters, Debbie Szemcsak and husband, Bob and Cynthia Lane all of Oolitic; one son, David Smith and wife, Jerri of Judah; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren; one sister, Betty Jo Taflinger and husband, Newt; one brother-in-law, Jack Nickless and wife, Mary; three sisters-in-law, Gail Fish and husband, Gary, Mary Ford and husband, Tim, Patty Roberts and husband, Carole; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters; two brothers and one in infancy; four grandchildren, Elizabeth, Patrick and Michael Dennis Waldrip, Ryan Smith. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am on Wednesday, January 13th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, January 12th and from 9:00 am until the hour of services on Wednesday, January 13th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
