Obituary of Miriam Elizabeth Smallwood

Oolitic - Miriam Elizabeth Smallwood, 101, of Oolitic, died at 9:45 pm on Monday, April 17, 2006 at her residence. Born December 18, 1904 in Oolitic, she was the daughter of Levi A. and Mary (Batman) Smallwood. She was a graduate of Indiana University. She was a schoolteacher for grade school in Lawrence County, high school in Bloomington and college professor at the University of Dayton. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Oolitic. Survivors include three nephews, Dr. Kay Smallwood of California, Dr. Don Smallwood of Florida and Tom Smallwood of California; two nieces, Sue Hicks of Bedford and Nedra Smallwood Ward of California; nineteen great nieces and nephews and twenty-eight great great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Russell Smallwood and Dr. Robert Smallwood and one sister, Catherine Smallwood. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 22nd from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Dan Voorhies offciating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 10:00 am until the hour of the service on Saturday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
