Obituary of Austin L. Sims

Avoca Austin L. (Shorty) Sims, Jr. 62, of Avoca and St. Petersburg, FL, died Tuesday, April 19, 2011 in Florida. Born March 10, 1949 in Bloomington, IN, he was the son of Austin L. Sims, Sr. and Margaret Louise (Robertson) Sims. He married Linda S. (George) Tipton on January 13, 1990 and she survives. He retired as a union shop steward at General Electric. He was a member of I.B.E.W. Survivors include his wife, Linda of Avoca and St. Petersburg, FL; three sons, Austin L. (Pete) Sims, III and wife, Tammy of Gosport, IN, Bill Sims and wife, Stacey, Rusty Sims and wife, Crystal all of Bloomington; a step-son, Darren Tipton and wife, Bonnie of Bedford; a step-daughter, Sandy Hammersley of Bedford; a sister, Susie Hendricks of Bloomington; a brother, Dennis Sims of Springville; eleven grandchildren, Carl Sims, Tommy Sims and fiance, Lilly, Bobby Sims, Patrick Sims, Makayla Sims, Casara Sims, Autumn Sims, Derrek Tipton, Brooke Tipton, Chandler Hammersley and Renae Hammersley; one great grandson, Jonathan; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Rita Kay Sims (in infancy). Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 23rd at in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Frank Ira officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Christian Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, April 22nd at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
