Obituary of Bert Hawkins

Bedford, Bert Hawkins, 74, of 907 Heltonville Road East in Bedford, died at 12:27 am on Saturday, November 06, 2004, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on April 11, 1930 in Monroe County, he was the son of Cecil and Grace (Shields) Hawkins. He married Carolyn Joann Covey on December 10, 1955 and she died on January 18, 2003. He retired from NSWC in Crane, IN and was also employed at Dana Corporation in Mitchell. He was a past member of Sander Pentecostal Church in Bloomington. He attended Sanders School and then transferred to Bloomington High School. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific arena. Surviving is one son: Greg Hawkins of Bedford; one grandson: Tyson Coursey and his wife, Karen of Arkansas; two great grandchildren: Josie and Joseph Coursey both of Arkansas; two sisters: Boots Martin of Ellettsville and Kathryn Moser of Bloomington; two brothers: Edward Hawkins and his wife, Jewell of Bloomington and Ermil Hawkins and his wife, Vivian of Bloomington; two sister-in-laws: Viola Hawkins of Evansville and Gladys Hawkins of Bloomington; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one daughter: Cherie Coursey; two brothers: Ernest and Billie Hawkins. Funeral Information Graveside services will be conducted on Tuesday, November 9th, at 11:00 am at the Judah Church of Christ Cemetery with Rev. Buck Smith and Bro. Charlie Deckard officiating. Burial will follow. Military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Gillian Post #33 at the grave. Arrangements under the direction of the Day & Carter Mortuary.
