Obituary of Otis P. Ritter

Bedford Otis Paul Odie Ritter, 85, of Bedford, died at 5:36 pm on Thursday, October 11, 2012 at I.U. Health Bloomington Hospital. Born October 12, 1926 in Lawrence Co., he was the son of Otto and Oma (Sowder) Ritter. He married Vernice Deckard on September 13, 1952 and she survives. He retired from Indiana University after thirty-three years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WW II and a member of Donica Memorial Church of God. He enjoyed collecting records and record players and spending time with his family and his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Vernice of Bedford; three sons, Stephen Ritter and wife, Pamela (Tolliver), Philip Ritter and wife, Sarah (Beavers), Timothy Ritter; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Ritter, Isaac Ritter and wife, Tatiana Marie, Kyle Ritter and fiance, Melissa Wilkinson, Brandon Ritter and wife Amanda, Bradie Ritter and husband David Hall; seven great grandchildren, Hunter Trueblood, twins Hayden and Sydney Hall, Gabriella Hall, Brogan Cochran, Evan Wyatt Spoonmore, Gwenivere Elise Ritter; two brothers, Ellis Red Ritter and wife, Bernice (Sharr), Ermil Joe Ritter and wife, Peggy (Bartlett); two sisters, Lucille Lucy Hedrick and Elizabeth Ada Deckard. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Ervin Bud Ritter and wife, Martha (LuAllen), Elbert Honey Ritter and wife, Ona Mae (McPike); two sisters, Evelyn Ritter Cratcraft and husband, Herman and Mary Louise (in infancy); two brothers-in-law, Vestal Andy Deckard and Roger Hedrick. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Monday, October 15th at the Donica Memorial Church of God with Pastor Brian Bolton officiating. Burial will follow in Gilgal Cemetery in Heltonville where military rites will be accorded by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday, October 14th at the Day & Carter Mortuary and from 10:00 am until the hour of service on Monday, October 15th at the Donica Memorial Church of God.
