Obituary of Effie Elleene Batchelor

Bedford Effie Elleene Batchelor, 95, of Bedford, died at 8:10 am on Thursday, February 19, 2009 at the White River Lodge. Born August 28, 1913 in Salt Lake City, UT, she was the daughter of Karl G. and Marie T. (Schultz) Heide. She moved to Dolin, SD as a child. She attended the Dolin High School where she was the pianist and accompanist. She graduated from Dolin High School as a classmate of Hubert Humphrey. She and her father moved to Illinois after graduation and the death of her mother. She studied music and arts for two years in Chicago before moving to Bedford where her father married her step-mother. She married Charles M. Batchelor and he preceded her in death in January 1964. She spent much of her married life in Mitchell before moving to Bedford. She worked at M. Fine & Sons Mfg. after her husbands death and was a member of the First Christian Church. She began playing the piano at the age of five and was an accomplished musician. She played for the ladies group of the First Christian Church, the White Shrine, and Bedford Order of the Eastern Star. She was an honorary member of the Stanford Order of the Eastern Star. She was an excellent seamstress and crafter. She enjoyed traveling and being with her family. Survivors include three daughters, Yvonne D.Galyan of Bloomington, Jan Haire and her husband John, of Martinsville, Sandra K. Miller and her husband Dean, of Bedford; eleven grandchildren, Sherry Cohen of Bloomfield, Nathan Galyan of Bloomington, Steven Galyan of Greenfield, Mark Galyan of Greenwood, Michael Haire of Fishers, Deborah Poff of Memphis, IN, Terri Anderson of Loveland, OH, Nicole Chappell of Indianapolis, Lenny Miller of Oolitic, Kelli Pritchett of Bedford, Troy Miller of Williams; twenty-six great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Monday, February 23rd from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Bob Dailey officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Sunday, February 22nd at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
