Obituary of Avery F. New

Avery F. New, 86, of Oolitic, IN, died at 6:00 A.M. Saturday, March 13th at his residence. Born January 12, 1924 in Hazard, KY, he was the son of Harvey and Betsy (Young) New. He married Frances H. Patton and she survives. Avery retired from General Motors after thirty years, farmed for fifty years and was a member of the UAW Local 440 and F& AM American Patriot Lodge #750. He was a very hard worker and enjoyed fishing in Florida in the winter time and installing pools at Sunrise Pools in the summer time. He also enjoyed playing the bass guitar with many friends while in Florida and here in the summer. He was a very loving dad and grandpa. Surviving with his wife, Frances, of sixty-six years, is his daughters, Freida May of Williams, Elaine Holt and her husband, Bob and Paulette Sherrill and her husband, George all of Bedford; grandchildren, Doug May and his wife, Ruth; Wendy Houk and her husband, Joe; Beth Hayes and her husband, J.D.; Jennifer Denesha and her husband, Paul; Adriane Beasley and her husband, Eric and Tricia Terrell; step-grandchildren, Kelly Boruff, Leann Strunk, Sherry Tross, Jimmy Strunk and twenty six great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Joyce Strunk; four brothers, Ardell, Otto, Noel and Millard New and three sisters, Sadie Young, Ida Nikirk and Lily Decker and a step grandson, Scott Holt. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 16th in the Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary with Dirus Dustin officiating. Burial will follow in the Patton Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at Day & Carter Mortuary on Monday, March 15th from 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and on Tuesday from 11:00 A.M. until the service time. Masonic Services will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. on Monday, March 15th by the F & AM American Patriot Lodge #750.
