Obituary of Lester Wayne Mitchell

Bedford Lester Wayne Coke Mitchell, 82, of Bedford, died at 7:10 pm on Monday, November 16, 2009 at his residence. Born June 24, 1927 in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Morton C. and Dessie (Cain) Mitchell. He was a graduate of Bedford High School with the class of 1946. He married Avanell Olson on July 30, 1948 and she survives. He retired from Q.T. Tool in Bedford as a tool and cutter grinder. He was a member of the Bedford Masonic Lodge #14 F & AM for over fifty years and a former member of the Bedford Elks Lodge, Loyal Order of the Moose and Jay Cees. Survivors include his wife, Avanell of Bedford; three daughters, Brenda Stogsdill and husband, Jim, Debbie Red Miller and husband, Steve all of Bedford, Cheryl Strickler of Bloomington; three grandchildren, Melissa Beasley, Brandon Brown and wife, Heather and Cody Strickler; one great grandson, Ethan Wayne Brown; a close personal friend, Debi Deer of Springville who is considered family. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Hazel Murray and Helen Houston. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am on Friday, November 20th from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Jack Hamilton and John Flinn officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, November 19th at the Day & Carter Mortuary. A Masonic service will be conducted at 7:30 pm on Thursday, November 19th at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Donations Information The family asks that friends consider memorial contributions be made to the Thornton Memorial Boys Club, the Limestone Girls Club or Hospice of Bloomington Hospital.
