Obituary of Debra G. Maze

Bedford – Debra G. Maze, 70, of Bedford, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, surrounded by her family. Born September 26, 1953, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Zelbert B. Hawkins, Jr. and Gloria G. (Reuter) Hawkins. She married Jon Maze on April 7, 1989, and he survives. She was a graduate of Bedford High School with the class of 1971 and a member of the Dive Christian Church for over 47 years. She retired as the branch manager at the Bedford License Branch after 42 ½ years. She loved her family fiercely; they were her everything. She was “Gigi” to everyone. Survivors include her husband, Jon, of Bedford; a son, Justin Pogue and wife, Michelle, of Liberty Hill, TX; a daughter, Marci Bennett and husband, Bryce, of Bedford; grandchildren, Brynlea and Kaedyn Bennett, Ella Pogue, and Lilly Hawkins; a brother, Jerry Hawkins and wife, Linda, of Bedford; two nieces and a nephew, who were like her children, Missy Brown and husband Stacey, Mindy Kimbrel and husband Justin, and Heath Hawkins; and several cousins, great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Randy Hawkins and wife, Emily; a sister-in-law, Debbie Hawkins. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Monday, February 26th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Taylor Brown and Joe McAdams officiating. Burial will follow in the Dive Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday, February 25th at the Day & Carter Mortuary, and from 12 noon until the hour of service on Monday, February 26th at Day & Carter Mortuary. In lieu of flowers or other tokens of sympathy, the family requests that contributions be made to Dive Christian Church Children’s Christmas or Lawrence County Cancer Patient Services.
