Obituary of George N. Luallen

Bedford George N. Luallen, 82, of 410 W. 10th Street, Oolitic, died at 6:43 pm on Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born July 3, 1927 in Lawrence Co., he was the son of Fred and Ethel (Owens) Luallen. He married Sara F. Herr in 1984 and she survives. Luallen served in the Korean War in U.S. Marine Corps. He joined the Bedford Police Department in 1951, was promoted to Captain in 1957, graduated from the FBI National Academy in 1959, and became Chief of Police in 1961. He was the proud owner of Keach & Grove Real Estate and Luallen & Associates, Inc. He was a member of the Valley Mission Church of the Nazarene, Gillen Post #33 American Legion, and the Bedford Masonic Lodge #14 F&AM. Survivors include his wife, Sara, of Oolitic; one daughter, Polly Luallen of Washington DC; one son, Bill Luallen of Atlanta, GA; three grandchildren, Whitney, Kelsey and Jordan Luallen all of Atlanta; one sister, Martha Ritter of Bedford and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Robert; and Sisters Chloe Covey, Mae Bartlett, and Mary Turner. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 29th from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Duane Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens with military rites accorded at the graveside by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion. Friends may call from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, August 28th at the Day & Carter Mortuary. A Masonic service will be conducted at 7:00 pm on Friday by members of the Bedford Masonic Lodge #14 F & AM.
