Obituary of Marlen Jones

Bedford – Marlen Jones, 71, of Bedford, died at 5:44 pm on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital surrounded by loved ones and friends.

Born July 29, 1946, in Cape Sandy, IN, he was the son of Max K. and Florence May (Lynch) Jones.  Marlen married Della Bolton on January 22, 1966 and she survives.  He was a retired electronic technician and building maintenance from the Times Mail and Lawrence County.  He attended Tabernacle of Praise Church.  Marlen enjoyed the outdoors, watching the sun set every evening, gardening, and visiting with his neighbors.  He was a devoted husband, and a loving father and grandfather. 

Survivors include his wife Della of Bedford; two daughters, Kathy Haile and husband Gerald of Winchester, KY, and Karen Hobson and husband John Ed of Heltonville; five grandchildren, Elisha Haile and fiancé Cole Wills, Joshua Johnson and wife Sara, Kayla Johnson, Sophia Hobson, and Conner Hobson; one brother, Lester Jones and wife Kathleen of Leavenworth; one sister, Marjorie Linton of Corydon; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved pets, Sheba, Tommy and Pepper.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Jesse F., Kenneth, and George William Jones.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, August 16th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastors Gary Thomas and Tom Jones officiating.  Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.  Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, August 15th and from 11:00 am until the hour of service on Wednesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.  Family and friends may express condolences at www.daycarter.com.
