Obituary of Richard Duncan

Bedford Richard (Dick) Duncan, 83, of 4682 Tunnelton Road, Bedford, died Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at his residence. Born June 24, 1927, he was the son of William C. and Vay (Ikerd) Duncan. He married Dottie Tiemeyer on September 15, 1956 at the First Presbyterian Church in Brownstown, IN and she survives. He was a graduate of Shawswick High School with the class of 1945. He graduated from Purdue University in 1951 with a Bachelors Degree in Agriculture and earned his Masters Degree in Sociology from the University of Louisville in 1969. After graduating from Purdue University, he worked for Sunbeam Corp. in Chicago, International Milk Producers in Rice Lake, WI and then joined the Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service in 1953. After working in twenty Indiana counties for the Cooperative Extension Service, he retired as Administrator of the Ft. Wayne Area in 1983. He was a veteran of WW II serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Leatherwood Christian Church; Gillen Post #33 American Legion; a 50 - year member of the Washington Lodge #13 F & AM of Brownstown; Epsilon Signa Phi and the National County Extension Workers Fraternity. Survivors include his wife, Dottie, of Bedford; two sons, Ronn Michael Duncan of Bloomington and Drew Richard Duncan and wife, Lisa, of Louisville, KY;one granddaughter, Katherine Vay Duncan; one grandson, Jacob Christopher Duncan, both of Louisville, KY; one sister, Sally Hall of Bedford; one sister-in-law, Elizabeth Duncan of Rivervale/Lawrenceport area; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, William G. Duncan and one brother-in-law, James Hall. Funeral Information Graveside services will be conducted at 12:00 noon on Monday, January 3rd at the Leatherwood Christian Church Cemetery with Jeff Hauersperger officiating. Military rites will be accorded at the graveside by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday, January 2nd at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
