Obituary of Robert Simpson Cox

Avoca Robert Simpson Cox, 90, of Avoca, died at 8:20 am on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at his residence. Born November 17, 1918 in Los Angeles, CA, he was the son of Ebert Cox and Layla (Tinture) Westerfield. He married Dorothy Waggoner and she survives. Robert worked in a CCC Camp from 1936 to 1939. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps serving during WW II from 1939 to 1945. He was employed as a truck driver at NWSC Crane from 1947 to 1973. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Avoca; two sons, Dennis Ray Cox and wife, Linda of Denver, CO and Gregory Dean Cox and wife, Susan, of Bedford; one half-brother, James Cox of St. Louis, MO; three half-sisters, Lorraine Cully of St. Louis, MO, Dorothy Jean Cox of Englewood, NJ and Kyllene Cox of Piscataway, NJ. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Drexal Cox; two half-brothers, Oliver Cox and Frank Westerfield. Funeral Information Graveside services will be conducted at 10:00 am on Friday, November 6th at the House of Prayer Church Cemetery with Pastor Bill Raines officiating. Military rites will be accorded at the graveside by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion. No calling hours are scheduled.
