Obituary of David E. Sumpter

Bedford David E. Sumpter, 66, of 100 Jaye Lane, Bedford, died at 5:45 am on Saturday, September 4, 2010 at his residence. Born December 22, 1943 in Indianapolis, he was the son of Robert Carson and Catherine Pauline (Butler) Sumpter. He married Peggy Dunbar McGaha and she survives. He was a supervisor for Medical Oxygen in Indianapolis for twenty years. He later worked as a salesman for J & S Locksmith in Bloomington for fifteen years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. Surviving are his wife, Peggy of Bedford; a son, William McGaha of Bedford; a daughter, Angela Lawson and husband, James of Bedford; six grandchildren, Ryan, Robert, Heather, James, Samantha and Gracie McGaha; one great granddaughter, Lilly McGaha; a sister, Carla Kingery and husband, Johnnie and a brother, Robert E. Sumpter all of Rockville, IN; sisters-in-law, Joan Clark and husband, John, Linda Ring and husband, Gary; twenty nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Richard and Donald and a sister, Donna Cooksey. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, September 8th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with military rites accorded be members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion. Cremation will follow. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, September 7th and from 9:00 am until the hour of service on Wednesday, September 8th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
