Obituary of Joy Anna Beaver

Bedford Joy Anna Beaver, 88, of Bedford, died at 4:25 am on Thursday, April 1, 2010 at Core Nursing Home. Born January 9, 1922 in Prairie Creek, she was the daughter of Joy E. Pitman and Josephine Gobin. She married Bob Beaver on June 20, 1950 and he preceded her in death. She graduated from Prairie Creek High School as valedictorian of her class. She attended Indiana State University where she earned her Bachelors and Masters degrees. She retired in 1987 having taught for forty-three years in the Vigo County School Corporation and at Fortville, IN and Covington, IN. She was a member of the Baptist Church of Prairie Creek and the First Baptist Church of Terre Haute. She was a member and regent of the Fort Harrison Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, member and president of Daughters of American Colonists, and member of Colonial Dames of XVII Century. She was a member and past president of the Wabash Valley Art Guild, the Swope Art Museum and member and past president of the Swope Art Alliance. She was Worthy Matron of Evelo Order of the Eastern Star which merged with Prairieton Lodge Order of the Eastern Star in which she became a fifty year member. Survivors include a son, David Robert Beaver and wife, Lynn of Bedford; grandchildren, Jill, of Bedford, Thomas, of Bloomington and Andrew, of Louisville, KY; a sister, Norma Ritz of Pendleton. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a sister, Letta Mae Tarrah. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am on Monday, April 5th at the First Baptist Church, 877 East Poplar Street, Terre Haute, IN. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery in Terre Haute. Friends may call from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Saturday, April 3rd at the Day & Carter Mortuary and from 9:00 am until the hour of service on Monday, April 5th at the First Baptist Church in Terre Haute.
