Bedford – Shirley A. Waggoner, 87, of Bedford, passed away on November 3, 2025, at Cedar Creek Assisted Living in Bedford.

Born February 28, 1938, in Bedford, she was the daughter of James and Mary Ann (Kirk) Aliano. She married her high school sweetheart, Ray Edward Waggoner on May 17, 1958, and he preceded her in death on October 11, 2021. She worked at the License Branch, Stone City Bank, and Edgewood Clinic. While at Edgewood Clinic, she was Office Manager and later was promoted to VP of Physician’s Services when the Bedford Regional Medical Center was established. After leaving the Bedford Regional Medical Center in 1995, she started working with her husband, Ray, as a contractor for Midwest Technologies installing telephone equipment in the southern Indiana area.

A devoted member of the Oolitic Church of Christ, Shirley attended faithfully and especially loved the singing. She and Ray loved gardening and their horses, Moon, Sugar, Cody and Little Bit. They always had a huge garden and kept a meticulous yard. She canned 100 quarts of beans and froze corn, made pickles, relish, etc. to feed her family and provide food for large family gatherings during the holidays. She loved her companion, a corgi named Missy. She loved taking Missy on leisurely walks through the field. In her later years, she and Missy would sit in the backyard and Missy would chase birds and bark at the squirrels. She loved spending time with her granddaughters, playing cards, hide and seek, camping and attending their activities, ballgames and dance recitals. She helped her nieces with wedding planning, and sewing, and they knew they could count on her because she was always eager to help. She loved the vacations the entire family took every 5 years including Disney World, a Disney Cruise, a week in the Outer Banks, and an Alaskan Cruise. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed cooking and spending time in the kitchen. It was a family tradition to have spaghetti and meatballs with dago’ bread every Christmas. Manicotti, chicken and dumplings, and multiple desserts were always on the menu as well. There was always plenty of food left over for the entire family to take home.

Survivors include her sons, Brad (Sally) Waggoner, and Mike (Laura) Waggoner; granddaughters, Amanda (Sean) Hunter, Audra (Jason) Dailey, Anna Waggoner, Lacy (Zach) Bailiff, and Laken (Jacek) Zapendowski; great-grandchildren, Gabriella Ray Hunter, Lucy Elizabeth Hunter, Olivia Grace Dailey, Grant Lewis Dailey, Lola Jo Bailiff, Zoey James Bailiff, and Ezra Jan Zapendowski; sibling, Robert Aliano. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, James and great-grandson, Zeke Michael Zapendowski.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Friday, November 7th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Paul Guthrie officiating.
