Harold O. Hawkins Obituary

Bedford – Harold O. Hawkins, 84, of Bedford, passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.


Born January 2, 1941, in Lawrence Co., he was the son of Richard Harold and Mary Helen (Starrett) Hawkins. He married Rosetta Cooper on December 14, 1961, and she survives. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1958 and served in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1962 having achieved the rank of E4 with the Medical Corp. He retired from General Motors in 2000 as a die cast operator and was a member of the Antique Car Association.


Survivors include his wife, Rosetta, of Bedford; a son, Richard Lee Hawkins and wife, Rhonda, of Springville; a daughter, Debra Lynn Wright and husband, Theron, of Bedford; four grandsons, Matthew Wright (Lacey Dalton), and Jarod Cheek, of Bedford, Brandon Hawkins and Ryan Hawkins (Morgan), all of Springville; one brother, Kenneth R. Hawkins, and wife, Jean of PA; a sister, Joyce Totten and husband, Charles, of North Vernon, IN; a sister-in-law, Karen Hawkins, of Bedford. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kenneth E. Hawkins.


Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Monday, October 20th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Jim McDowell officiating. Military rites will be accorded by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the hour of service on Monday at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Family and friends may express condolences at www.daycarter.com.
