Cappie Sue (Smith) Gilbert, 66, of Bedford, passed away at 8:08 am on Friday, September 26, 2025, at White River Lodge in Bedford.

Born September 14, 1959, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Homer Earl Smith, Sr. and Effie Mae (Spicer) Smith. She was a 1978 graduate of Mitchell High School. She had worked in the cafeteria for the Monroe County Community School Corporation, as a server at Lonnie’s Restaurant, and as housekeeper at Gentry Quarters.

Survivors include four children, Donnie Gilbert, Cletus Gilbert, Jr., Daniel Gilbert, and Shane Gilbert; sisters, Lisa Medlock and husband, Max, Marcella Hargis and husband, Dave, Mabel Smith, Mary Bieber, and Tina Bailey; a brother, Homer Smith, Jr.; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2:30 pm on Tuesday, September 30th in the Mitchell Cemetery with Dr. Bob Courson officiating. Visitation will be from 12 noon to 2:00 pm on Tuesday, September 30th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
