Mitchell - Joseph Mirl Hampton of Mitchell, Indiana, joined his Lord and Savior on the morning of September 15, 2025. He was born on November 23, 1939, in Bedford, Indiana to Violet E. (Thomas) and Onis F. Hampton. One of six children, Joe, was the baby of the family. Sadly, his mother Violet passed away in December of 1939. Joe was taken in raised by his aunt, Frances (Thomas) Turpin.

Joe was a 1958 graduate of Bedford High School. He married Emma Pauline Hash of Greene County on May 28, 1966. Joe and Pauline were married in and attended the Free Methodist Church of Bedford. They welcomed a daughter, Marsha Anne, in July of 1967.

Joe worked for Extruded Alloys in Bedford until it closed. He worked locally in various locations and positions to provide for his family.

Survivors include one daughter, Marsha A. Mundy of Mitchell. Two granddaughters, Nathalie L. Silvers of Springville and Amanda D. Mundy of Indianapolis; and one honorary grandson, Brandon Phillips of Springville.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline, his parents, his aunt “Francy”, his brothers Kenny, Onis Frank, and Grant; and sisters Joyce Turpin and Roselyn Hert. Services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Friday, September 19, 2025, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until the hour of service on Friday at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Family and friends may express condolences at www.daycarter.com.

The family would like to extend special thanks to all the medical providers and caregivers who cared for Joe during his journey. Dr. Hojjat Shamloo and the staff at IU Health Primary Care; Caregivers from Vertical Home Health and Ascension Compassion Home Health; the staff of StoneBridge Health who got Joe on his feet after multiple times in rehab; the staff of Paoli Health & Living Community and IU Hospice who ensured he was comfortable in his final hours. Additionally, Joe’s long-time friend and neighbor Eddie Pruett, and caregiver Dwayne Marsteiner – these men spent many hours caring for and listening to Joe share his stories and lodge his complaints.
