Owensburg – Sharon Rose (Payne) Chaney, 85, of Owensburg, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at the I.U. Health Hospice House in Bloomington.
Born July 17, 1940, in Shoals, she was the daughter of Norman and Helen (Qualkenbush) Payne. She married the love of her life, Jack Chaney on October 20, 1956, and he preceded her in death. She had attended Shoals High School, was a homemaker and a member of the Owensburg Baptist Church.
She and Jack spent 50 years together loving, laughing, building a business and raising a family. She loved spending time with family and friends and had a very generous heart. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Survivors include five sons, Kent (Teri) Chaney, Aaron Chaney, Andy (Mary Ann) Chaney, Larry Chaney and Garry Chaney; grandchildren, Kyle Chaney, Jacob Chaney, Julia Lucas, Adrienne Chaney, Makayla Mitchell, Jessie Chaney, Casey Chaney and Chelston Norris; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Doris Lagenour, Rebekah Jenkins and Rachel Sutton; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Helen Payne; her husband, Jack; siblings, Marcella Hardwick and Bill Payne; a grandson, Austin Chaney and great-grandson, Christopher Norris.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Thursday, August 21st in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Mark Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Owensburg Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, August 20th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
