Bedford – Jerry F. Melvin, 93, of Bedford, passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2025.

Born December 1, 1931, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Charles F. and Golda Marrie (Miller) Melvin. He married Carol Sue Sons on November 3, 1951, and she preceded him in death on September 27, 1982. He later married Ruth E. Davidson and she also preceded him in death. Jerry retired as Chief Petty Officer from the U.S. Navy after 22 years of service. He served in the U.S. Navy Reserve for 10 years and worked at NSWC Crane in security as well as pest control.

Survivors include children, Jerry D. Melvin and wife, Jean, Charles H. Melvin and wife, Roslyn, Randall D. Melvin and wife, Pamela, all of Bedford; a step-son, Kevin Davidson, of CO; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, both wives, a daughter, Cheryl Sue; a sister, Sharon Barger; brothers, Philip D. Melvin and 2 (in infancy).

Funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, June 11th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Bro. Marty Speer officiating. Burial will follow in Dishman Cemetery in Greene County. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the hour of service on Wednesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
