Obituary of Sallie Claudette Jackson
Heltonville – Sallie “Claudette” Jackson, 93, of Heltonville, passed away at 2:18 am on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at White River Lodge in Bedford.
Born July 7, 1931, in Heltonville, she was the daughter of Claude and Velma (Stafford) Wiley. She married Jim Jackson on June 30, 1951, and he preceded her in death on December 27, 2013. She got her BA degree from I.U. and continued her education earning her Masters degree at I.U. She was an educator beginning her career in 1968 at Fayetteville High School and Heltonville High School. She transferred to Bedford North Lawrence in 1974 and retired in 1987. She was a member of the Heltonville Christian Church, Indiana Retired Teachers Assoc. and I.U. Alumni Assoc.
She loved being with her daughters and family. She played piano and organ for over 70 years at the Heltonville Christian Church. She loved traveling and motorcycle trips with Jim and was an avid reader.
Survivors include four daughters, Dana Bailey and husband, Duane, Jamie Jones and husband, Danny, Shawn Smith and husband, Ted, Stacie Grant and husband, Adam; grandchildren, Nathan Bailey and wife, Jessica, Lindsee Martinez and husband, Tony, Wiley Jones and wife, Mandie, Shane Jones and fiancé, Jamie Harrison, Tyler Smith and wife, Kristen, Taylor Smith, Roy Grant, Spencer Grant, and Paige Grant; great-grandchildren, Kennedy (Kegan), Noah, Jonah, Griffin, Averie (Wade), Jackson, Zander, Tinsley, and Tankston; two great-great-grandchildren, Kingstyn and Kayson; two nieces, Sonnie Umphress and Susan Emerson. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a great-grandchild, Zoey Martinez; two sisters, Martha Smith and Ruth Wiley; a niece, Shelly Dewicke.
Memorial services will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Saturday, May 10th at the Heltonville Christian Church with Pastor Jon Lineback officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until the hour of service on Saturday, May 10th at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Heltonville Christian Church or the Zoey Martinez Memorial Scholarship Fund.
