Obituary of William E. Green

William “Bill” E. Green went to be with our Lord and savior on Saturday February 22, 2025. He was the son of William Robert and Nellie Rosetta(Harvey) Green. He had been the owner of Bedford Tire & Alignment and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Since serving with Delta Company 1st 501st of 101st Airborne Division 1 Corp from 1969-1971 with active duty in Vietnam War, he had been battling acute myeloid leukemia related to Agent Orange exposure since 2023. He was honorably discharged with rank of E5 Sargent. Bill was awarded the CIB(combat infantry badge, air medal, good conduct medal, Vietnam service medal with 2 bronze service stars, Bronze star, National Defense medal, Vietnam Campaign medal, and Vietnamese Cross of gallantry. He was a member of the V.F.W Post #2953 in Evansville and lifetime member of 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam. > > Bill loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandkids. He was the proudest and best Pap in the entire world. He loved playing monopoly with his “Mean Boy” grandson, Maverick, and watching him play basketball. He helped his grand baby girl, “Punk”, Savanah, follow her dream of becoming a pilot, taught her how to drive and maintain her car during covid, amongst many other things. Pap spent countless hours playing, vacationing, teaching, and loving his grandkids. He loved his kids and grandkids more than anyone could fathom. Bill enjoyed sitting in lawn chairs outside at the Eagle’s Nest at his daughters home in Springville while shooting the breeze and eating peanuts. He was an ambassador of kindness and great wit and sense of humor. He was constantly getting fudge from Uranus and giving it to friends and random people just to “show a little kindness”. He had tons of crazy sayings, many that wouldn’t be appropriate to share here but would sure make you laugh. He repeatedly went up to anyone wearing any Vietnam or military shirts/hats and striking up conversations no matter where he was at. He lovingly handed out challenge coins to anyone that showed compassion and kindness to him as a token of appreciation and respect. He had a way about him that made everyone around him happy and he always found joy in the things that truly matter in life. The loss of my Daddy has and will continue to leave a ginormous hole in countless hearts. Rest assured, if you were one of his people, he loved you fiercely. > > Survivors include a daughter, Amy Wampler, of Springville; two sons, Bill Green(Nicky), of Alabama, and Marty Staggs, of Needmore; two grandchildren, Savanah Hopkins and Maverick Wampler; two brothers, Roger Green(Kristin), of Broken Arrow, OK and Bob Green (Jill), of Collinsville, IL. , and his surviving band of brothers he served with in the 101st Airborne. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Gary Green, and a son, Caleb Nathaniel Green. > > Viewing will be Thursday, February 27th from 4pm-8pm. Funeral Services will be conducted at 12:00Noon on Friday, February 28th, with viewing 11am until time of service in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary in Bedford, IN, with Mike Lewis officiating.
