Obituary of Terry R. Kelly

On Wednesday, January 29th 2025, our favorite husband, dad, papaw, brother, and uncle, Terry R Kelly, left his earthly body behind and traded it for the loving arms of Jesus. Terry fought cancer for five years. It was a daunting fight that he fought with dignity and courage. Be assured, the cancer did not win. Jesus and Terry won. He was born on November 23rd 1954, the second born to John “Muskrat” Kelly and Jane (Pierce) Kelly. He married the love of his life, Trella Ranee (Craig) Kelly on June 4th 1977. They were blessed with three children, Dee Dee Terrell and her special someone Jim Steele, Megan Kraft and her husband Jon, Nathanael Kelly and his wife Rebecca. Then along came five amazing grandchildren, Emma and her husband Grant Simpson, Logan Terrell, Merly Kelly, Galilee Kelly, and Jenny Lopez. His brothers and sisters were some of his biggest fans. They are Tony Kelly and his wife Yong Suk, Tim Kelly and his wife LeeAnn, Tom Kelly and his wife Missy, Mary Jane Schlake and her husband Darryl, and Dee Dee Cosby. Also his uncle, Jimmy Pierce, was always there for him. They were every one faithful to the very end. Following in family footsteps, Terry spent much of his working life as a plasterer. He enjoyed watching projects come to life and making a difference. Often times, just driving down the road in different cities or towns, Terry would point to a structure and say, we worked on that building! And he always said it with pride. Sometimes we would even need to drive around said building to “see how it was holding up”. Terry worshipped at Owensburg Baptist Church for many years where he served as a deacon. In latter years, he attended Avoca Baptist Church and loved the people there. Terry loved the Lord, and one of his favorite ways to spend time with Him was through His creation. He loved to fish, hunt, and play golf with his buddies. He loved being a dad, a protector, and a provider for his family. And He adored being a papaw. Terry was kind and caring, generous with his means and his time. For many years he coached basketball and baseball teams. And up until the very end, many of those same “kids” would approach him and recall those memories with admiration. For certain, any new acquaintance was not a stranger for very long. He had a mischievous sense of humor and loved playing pranks on his friends. He loved to laugh, especially at his own jokes. There will never be another like him. Visitation will be at Day and Carter Mortuary on Sunday, February 2nd from 4 until 8 pm. The funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Monday, February 3rd at the Avoca Baptist Church with his son, Nathanael Kelly, officiating. Visitation will be held from noon until the time of service on Monday. Burial will take place at the Silverville Missionary Baptist Church. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Avoca Baptist Church or the Indian Creek Baptist Camp. Family and friends may express condolences at www.daycarter.com.
