Obituary of Nelson L. Prall

Bedford Nelson L. Prall, 97, 2743 Washington Ave., Bedford, died at 2:43 pm on Tuesday, July 29, 2003 from injuries sustained in an auto accident. Born July 9, 1906 in Henryville, IN, he was the son of Clarence and Amelia (Sohn) Prall. He married Bertha Mahan on February 3, 1933 and she died July 1, 1984. He held degrees in both civil engineering and law. He was a land surveyer retiring in 1990, a member of the Henryville Masonic Lodge, Indiana State Bar Assoc. and Indiana Society of Professional Engineers. He served as Chairman of Indiana Professional Land Surveyers Legislative Committee and wrote several bills defining the duties of land surveyors which are still on the books today. He did land surveying from 1950 to 1990 and served as Lawrence County Surveyer for many years. He became an attorney in 1959 to better argue his position on land surveys. He visited every county in the lower forty-eight states. He was an avid Indiana High School basketball fan and enjoyed predicting the winners based on an exclusive system he developed. His predictions were often published in the Times-Mail. Mr. Prall was an excellent tennis player having won numerous city championships. Survivors include two sons, Eric L. Prall of Harker Heights, TX and Daniel N. Prall of Newark, DE; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers, George Albert and Chester Prall. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 2nd from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. David Ferry officiating. A committal service will be conducted at 1:30 pm on Saturday at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Henryville, IN. Friends may call from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, August 1st at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
