Obituary of Asa A. Burgess

Bedford – Asa A. Burgess, 87, of Bedford passed away at 2:49 am on Monday, January 09, 2017 at Stonebridge Health Campus. Born September 14, 1929, in Lawrence Co., he was the son of John E. and Lillie (Clouse) Burgess. He retired from Public Service Indiana in 1991 after thirty-nine years as a sub-station construction mechanic. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Asa was an avid BNL Lady Stars sports fan and supporter. He kept the books for the Lady Stars Softball Team for many years. Survivors include two daughters, Sherry Mitchell, of Mitchell and Phyllis Wilson, of Bedford; two sons, Kevin A. Burgess and wife, Donna, and Bradley A. Burgess and wife, Tammy, all of Bedford; twelve grandchildren, Amber, Mandy, Bradley, Jr., Michael, Maria, Zachary, Jessica, Sara, Kimberly, Creighton, Lloyd Dale, Jr., and Carolyn Sue; 21 great grandchildren, and his loving companion and friend of eighteen years, Carol Crane. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Charles, Robert M., John M, and Carl Burgess; three sisters, Phyllis C. Burgess, Louella Casey, and Margaret Lowrey; four great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 14th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Jay Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, January 13th and from 9:00 am until the hour of service on Saturday, January 14th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
