Obituary of Velma R. Thompson

Bedford – Velma R. Thompson, 86, of Bedford, died at 5:48 pm on Sunday, December 25, 2016 at Westview Nursing and Rehab. Born March 30, 1930 in Lawrence Co., she was the daughter of Doan S. and Agnes L. (Barlow) Williams. She married Lee A. Thompson on April 1, 1950 and he preceded her in death on May 25, 2016. She was a cosmetologist and owned a beauty shop in Williams and the Rocking Place Gift Shop and Touch of Tiffany Tea House. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and attended the First United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed making stained glass. She was influential in Southern Indiana Neuropathy Group. The family enjoyed early years of camping with the Night Owls and the Air Stream International Group. Survivors include a son, Brian L. Thompson and wife, Kathy, of Bedford; a daughter-in-law, Rhonda Thompson, of Mitchell; five grandchildren, Shannon Minshall and husband, James Anthony, Sarah Burk, Stuart Thompson, Brandon Thompson and wife, Vicky, Leslie Pemberton and husband, Chris; great grandchildren, Sherissa, Elise, and Loralai Minshall, Braden, Lucas, Ty Paul, and Dani Lynn Thompson, Aiden, Mayah, Addalyn, and Nyah Pemberton; two brothers, Gerald Williams of Mitchell and Bill Williams of Bedford; a sister, Loeda Mundy of Bedford. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a son, Brad Thompson. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am on Thursday, December 29th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Michelle White officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, December 28th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
