Obituary of Jack Andrew Kimmel

Bedford – Jack Andrew Kimmel, 91, of Bedford, died at 1:50 pm on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at Monroe Hospital in Bloomington. Born March 16, 1925, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Clinton and Bessie (Wolfinger) Kimmel. He married Mary O. Lockenour on April 26, 1947 and she preceded him in death on October 2, 2013. He retired from General Motors after thirty-four years of service. He enjoyed farming and gardening. Jack was known for his sense of humor and storytelling. He loved being around family. He was a member of the Oolitic Church of Christ. He was a veteran of WW II serving in the 3rd Army in Europe. Survivors include four sons, Steven Kimmel (Elayne), Benjamin Kimmel (Marilyn Gayle), Dwight Kimmel (Barbara), all of Springville, and Joseph Kimmel (Cheryl), of Bedford; two daughters, Bonnie Morrow (Bruce), of Nashville, and Connie Kimmel of Bedford; grandchildren, Teresa Barger (Tony), Jill Smith (David), Darren Kimmel (Libby), Capt. Travis Kimmel (Blair), Brandt Kimmel (Ashlie), Lane Kimmel (Lesley), Jesse Kimmel (Alison), Zach Kimmel, Nikki Kimmel, Abby McAfee (Nolan), Wes Morrow (Kayla); great grandchildren, Nathan Kimmel, Sherah Bland, Johnna Barger, Leah Smith, Rachel Smith, Hannah Smith, Hope Smith, Faith Smith, Cole Kimmel, Mallory Kimmel, Madison Kimmel, Carter Kimmel, Eleanor Kimmel, Jackson Kimmel, Joseph McAfee, Atticus McAfee and Esther McAfee; great great grandchildren, Jordyn Kimmel and Ryder Kimmel; three brothers, James, Lloyd (Louise) and George (Kay) Kimmel; one sister, Marie Kozik. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three brothers, John, Charles and Robert Kimmel and a sister, Genevieve Armstrong. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Friday, December 2nd in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Ed Owens officiating. Burial will follow in Springville Cemetery West where military rites will be accorded by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, December 1st and from 11:00 am until the hour of service on Friday, December 2nd at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
