Obituary of Doris A. Phillips Harris

Springville – Doris A. Phillips Harris, 80, of Springville, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus at 4:00 am on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at her residence following a four year battle with cancer. Born November 16, 1935, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Bennie and Ethel Marie (Smith) Flynn. She married Carlis Phillips on December 31, 1954 and he preceded her in death on August 24, 1972. She retired after eighteen years as a sergeant from the Lawrence County Police Department. She enjoyed cooking and crocheting for her family and friends, and being a recliner coach for I.U. basketball. She enjoyed attending church with her family and friends. Survivors include a daughter, Marsha (Mike) Eads of Springville; a nephew who was like a son, Dean Flynn; three grandchildren, Carla Hettle and fiancé, Matthew Roberts, Sarah (Wes) Stroud, of Bedford, Matthew Phillips of Heltonville; a daughter-in-law, Fay Phillips of Heltonville; three great grandchildren, Kyeirah Phillips, Kaden Phillips and Krimsin Strong; three sisters, Delores (Homer) Phillips, Mary (Bob) Phillips and Donna Elayne (Steve) Kimmel all of Springville; two brothers, Kenneth F. (Bea) Flynn, of Solsberry and Monte Dwayne (Diana) Flynn, of Springville; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two sons, Michael Duane Phillips (in infancy) and Marty Jay Phillips; two brothers, Bennie Leroy Flynn and Ronald Lee Flynn. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am on Tuesday, April 5th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Rodney Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, April 4th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
